Koh Samui has grown into a ‘sophisticated beach retreat’

Spending time on an Asian beach promises a truly “spectacular” break, and holidays in Thailand are leading the way in terms of beach-side sophistication.

This is according to Yahoo! Lifestyle, which championed Thailand’s “pristine miles” of exquisite coastline – famed for both its unspoilt beaches and crystal-clear water.

One of the best Asian beach destinations, it said, is Koh Samui – Thailand’s second-largest island and a long-time favourite among holidaymakers.

“Once party central for backpackers, Koh Samui has grown up in recent years into a sophisticated beach retreat,” Yahoo! Lifestyle stated, adding that it’s become the perfect destination for “jet-setting sun and fun-seekers”.

Praise wasn’t solely heaped on Thailand though, with Vietnam’s coastal resorts also recommended. The lifestyle website paid homage to Nam Hai in Hoi An, with its “soft white sands perfect for a dose of extreme pampering”.

Yahoo! Lifestyle also recommended Lombok in Indonesia, an island that’s quieter than neighbouring Bali.

“Lombok is less developed, blissfully less crowded and wildly beautiful,” it explained, with highlights including “scuba diving, snorkelling, hiking, great food and a unique culture”.

In its readers’ tips section, the Daily Telegraph last month recommended Koh Samui’s Maenam Beach, located on the island’s north coast.

It said the beach is “much more relaxing” than those on the busier eastern coast, and offers “spectacular” sunsets.
